Practical nurses start New Year running

Dear Eulalee,

Thanks to an article in The Gleaner's Health section a few weeks ago, I was able to locate a reliable service to provide practical nurses on shift for an elderly relative. Nurse Michelle Foster, the head of the business, is a professional lady who carefully screens all her caregivers.

We have been so impressed that we will be recommending them to our seniors group, the Caribbean Community of Retired Persons. Thank you very much for highlighting this humble start-up, which is already growing because of the exposure you gave them.

Kind regards,

Jean

Where is my father?

Dear Dr Abel,

In response to Dr Wendel Abel's article about Basil Dawkins' play, Where is my Father? on February 1, I want to thank him for recommending the play.

I was healed by watching it. It was as if I was watching my own story being played out.

I have been abused (verbally, sexually and physically) rejected by both parents and got pregnant at age 18. At least Evadney had a mother; I had no one but God, and just like Evadney, I saw suicide as an option, but God rescued me each time.

I never thought that I could have reached where I am today, but I owe it all to God.

Believe it or not, many mothersare out there like Joycelyn who see their daughters as a means to an end. They readily give up their daughters to a man once he can give them a 'change' especially, in these inner-city communities.

That is where it is rampant. My heart goes out to all the children who are out there suffering and are being abused. I pray that the Lord will deliver and rescue them just as he did me. Thanks again to Dr Wendel; it was indeed a pleasure to have watched the play.

Here is a poem I have written on the behalf all street children and those who are abused and feel rejected.

Street Child's Prayer

Rejected by family

Stricken by poverty

Scorned by society

Father, please deliver me

Every day I get up is another day of pain

Every day I get up is another bruise I gain

Father, please, Father, please

I call on the Father, I call on the Son

All I need is a breakthrough to come

Father ,please, Father, please

Father, please deliver me, Father, please deliver me

Father, please deliver me out of my purgatory.

Acquainted with grief; Acquainted with hurt

Why can't I be acquainted with love?

Father, please, Father, please.

Father, please deliver me, Father, please deliver me

Father, please deliver me out of my purgatory.

Amen!

Samantha Robinson
