Addiction begins and ends in pain

Dear Ms Thompson,

Here is a poem I wrote about addiction of which many of us suffer. Addiction is not good and it doesn't matter what you are addicted to, one must seek to break free from this monster of life. It is written, Exodus 20:3, "You shall have no other God before me," which is the first Commandment.

I have listened to many people pour scorn on Whitney Houston's drug addiction. But, let us not readily condemn but instead search ourselves.

Addiction

Addiction is a terrible and dreadful master.

He lured you by your weakness.

He then captured and takes you to abyss; where you become his slave.

He feeds you with torture and torments.

He takes away your sight and renders you powerless.

He turns you into a faithful servant.

He clothes you with bitterness and anger.

He takes complete control of your life.

Addiction is resolute and is hard to escape from.

But, if you are determined and adamant

You can truly break free from addiction.
