Kennedy latest addition to JPS board

Risk expert Cathrine Kennedy has joined the board of Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS), the utility's chairman Hisatsugu Hirai said on Friday.

The appointment took effect on February 7.

Kennedy, who was educated in Spain and the United States, is employed to conglomerate GraceKennedy Limited as group chief risk officer. JPS cited her years of experience and business expertise developed at GK in announcing her appointment.

She joins the board as a sixth appointee of majority shareholders Marubeni and Korea East West Power (EWP), who each own 40 per cent of JPS. The other five are chairman Hisatsugu, Charles Johnston, Sang Kie Cho, Yung Joon Pyo, and Seiji Kawamura.

The Jamaican Government, which owns 19.9 per cent of the utility company, has named three representatives: Fitzroy Vidal, director of energy in the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining; Professor Gordon Shirley, the principal of the University of the West Indies, Mona campus; and Professor Evan Duggan, executive director of the Mona School of Business and professor of ma-nagement information systems.

Kennedy also serves as director of Director of Grace Co-Operative Credit Union and the GraceKennedy Foundation, and is on the executive of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce as fourth vice-president.
