Tryall Fund awards scholarships

It was an emotional moment for Krystal Blackwood as she reminisced about her late father, Stanley Blackwood, while giving a speech prior to collecting her scholarship from the Tryall Fund.

Blackwood was among a group of 28 students who were awarded scholarships totalling $3 million at the Tryall Great House last Friday.

"It is the will and desire left by my dad, which makes me to be in pursuit of greatness. I want to thank the Tryall Club and to let you know that this will not be forgotten. It is my intention to be closely associated with this organisation in your future endeavours."

Krystal is in the final year of a primary education course at the Sam Sharpe Teachers' College in Granville, Montego Bay.

Chairman of the Tryall Fund, Terri McGraw, said the organisation's is committed to supporting education and health initiatives in the parish of Hanover and believes that education should not be limited by a lack of finances.

KEY TO SUCCESS

"We are pleased to support continuing education for outstanding academic performance and dedication to higher learning. In addition to providing academic scholarships, we believe that early intervention is key to the success of children in Jamaica and will make the biggest impact on the island," she said.

"That is why we adopted the Sandy Bay basic school and has seen in the past three years, major improvement."
