Little Ochie Mandeville back in business
Meal deal rises from the fire!

God took only seven days to create the entire world, but Evrol 'Blackie' Christian and the team who operate the recently gutted Mandeville branch of Little Ochie Seafood Restaurant took eight days to return the location to brand new, following the recent fire. When Food visited last week, there was not even a trace of burnt remnants anywhere. And out of the ashes has come a new addition to the popular eatery's menu: a meal deal!
The fire damaged the roof, floor and all appliances, as well as all the utensils. "We had to replace everything," said Debbie Newman, who supervised the refurbishing exercise. She is also the manager of the location. When Food arrived, Newman was just about to serve one of the meal deals to a regular customer. The new meal deal costs only $500 and comprises a quarter-pound of fish prepared any way you like it, with steamed or raw vegetables and a Busta soft drink.
It is actually a satisfying lunch and, with just three weeks since it was conceptualised, sales have so far been encouraging. As is customary, all meals are done to order, Newman said. "Customers can call ahead and order their meal deal, then just come to pick it up," she added.
To order the meal deal and other favourites, call 625-3279. They are open on Sundays from 2-11 p.m., and on Mondays to Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. They are located in Nashville Plaza in Mandeville.
