Rotoract club promises: 'It's gonna snow on the SS Caribbean Queen.'
The Rotaract Club of Liguanea Plains (RCLP) has announced details of its third signature fund-raiser 'Fantastic Voyage', to be held Sunday, December 2, at 4 p.m.
The event, dubbed 'Winter Wonderland', will involve a four-hour cruise around Kingston Harbour aboard the SS Caribbean Queen.
Part proceeds from the event will be donated to the Jacqui Melville 'A Touch of Pink' cancer-treatment fund and the remainder will be distributed among the RCLP's other charitable endeavours.
Speaking of their chosen charities, Khadrea Folkes, president of RCLP said, "much of our work up until now has focused on institutions such as schools and children's homes which donors readily seek out. It is very difficult to access support for very worthy causes, albeit in their own personal interest. We would like to reach these persons to assist them and put faces to the work that we do."
Tickets are $2,500, including dinner, or $2,000, with food and beverages on sale. ZIP FM's Johnny Kool will provide, what RCLP calls, "awesomely appropriate musical jugglings", and posters for the event declare, 'It's gonna snow on the SS Caribbean Queen".
The RCLP, a community-based service club sponsored by the Rotary Club of Liguanea Plains, consists of young men and women who are dedicated to making a difference in their communities. Through socially uplifting programmes, they promote literacy in the Jamaican society and act as mentors to the leaders of tomorrow.
This latest fund-raising event is just one of many charitable events organised by RCLP each year and is expected to raise a substantial sum of money which will go towards helping those affected by breast cancer.
The Rotaract Club of Liguanea Plains meets every first and third Wednesday, 6:30 p.m., at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston. For more information, go to: www.facebook.com/rotaractofliguaneaplains.
