All for Pat
It was regal yet humble, palatial yet rustic, not a contradiction, but a completeness that best describes the phenomenal Pat Wright and the 60th-birthday surprise party her sister friend Katrina Casserly threw for her.
A carefully selected list of friends was welcomed at the Casserly's Goat Hill home in Hanover on Saturday for this event. Many of these persons have been friends of the guest of honour for up to 40 years.
"I have known her for close to 20 years and she is such a lovely person," the host said. Phyllis Green singled out Wright's skill of about 40 years ago, that of doing the afro-cut hair style for women. "She was one of the best at cutting the afro then." Many spoke of her strengths in winning the battle against multiple cancer attacks.
The birththday lady made her way along the torchlit path believing she was one of the dinner guests her friend had invited. However, when guests, including her son Sajato Jarrett, shouted "surprise!", she was overwhelmed and brought to tears.
Regaining her composure and flashing her radiant smile, she went around greeting friends and well-wishers.
The sumptuous dining was prepared by Chef Peter Wright. This was complemented by the professional service at the bar which was headed by Ozzie Howard.
Long-time friend of Wright, Peter Lloyd, cancelled a performance in the United States (US) to be at the celebration and to perform. Lloyd took the audience through the rich history of reggae music, informing that the now popular rap music was started by a Jamaican in the US. Backed by the Irie Band, his rendition of some of the most popular local music kept the party of well-wishers entertained.
