Professor Dunn's 'Ringtones of Opportunity'

Exploring issues related to the new and emerging industries such as telecommunication policy, new media and intellectual rights, CARIMAC's director, Professor Hopeton Dunn, unveiled his newest volume of the book Ringtones of Opportunity in Montego Bay Tuesday night.
Dunn, a graduate of Cornwall College and a son of Trelawny, chose the grounds of the University of the West Indies, Mona, Western Jamaica campus for the timely unveiling.
The learned professor of communications policy and digital media at the UWI, Mona, aligned the historic launch with the message presented by chairman of the newly established Business Processing Industry Association of Jamaica, Yoni Epstein, who gave the keynote address.
Epstein spoke of the need to grow the IT sector to greater dimensions in Jamaica.
Scholarly research
The book Ringtones of Opportunities: Policy, Technology and Access in Caribbean Communications is the first to present scholarly research on the liberating opportunities offered by information and communications technologies in the Caribbean and the global south.
It is the most recent on a long list of publications by the Trelawny native on Caribbean communication, as well as other critical areas of Caribbean development such as tourism.
Ringtones of Opportunity should find resonance among industry players at all levels, said a media release from the UWI Western Jamaica campus.
Distinguished retired educator and communication consultant Dr Simon Clarke officiated the event which had a good showing of communication students, librarians and ICT persons.
