Western Bureau:It was music at its best in western Jamaica last Saturday night as enthusiasm flowed at the Montego Bay Community College via a musical production dubbed 'Jazz and Brawta'.

Despite very little in terms of vocal offering, those in attendance were nonetheless served a feast of high-quality jazz courtesy of some of Jamaica's finest musicians.

The evening started out with popular violinist Kingsley Depass dishing out from his wide musical repertoire. Accompanied by his brother Stephen on bass, he had the packed lecture theatre begging for more, setting the pace for what was to come.

Bassist Peter Brown and company followed and took the audience on a dazzling sing-along, rolling through several genres, much to the delight of a mixed audience, spanning various age groups.

The exciting Psalmsy came, saw and conquered with his steel drums. He was all the rage as he masterfully reeled off sacred, classical, calypso, R&B, soca and reggae.

Psalmsy's performance was followed by internationally renowned folklorist Fern Luecke, who took the attendance back in time with her storytelling and rib-tickling humour.

The penultimate performance was by Jango, who offered up much pleasure with his bang. He basically maintained the high standard set by those who preceded him on the stage. He was in fine fettle as the audience settled comfortably with him for the musical journey.

The icing on a cake came from the Infusion band, which made sure that the evening ended just as it started - perfectly.
