WESTERN BUREAU:

A St James security guard, who allegedly robbed the plaza where he was employed, was offered bail for a second time by the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday.

Twenty-six-year-old Clyde Morris, who is of a Crawford Street address in Mount Salem, Montego Bay, is charged with store-breaking and larceny.

Morris was previously offered bail in the sum of $100,000, when he appeared in court on November 12, 2012. Under the condition of the offer, he was asked to report to the Mount Salem Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. However, the bail offer was not taken up.

He is represented by attorney-at-law Jillian Haughton, who was not at court on Thursday.

During Thursday's hearing, the prosecution admitted that it is still awaiting closed-circuit television security footage from the plaza to build its case file.

Resident Magistrate Wilson Smith subsequently offered bail to Morris again, with the same conditions attached. A new mention date was set for January 29.

Reports are that, on October 8, 2012, a store owner at the plaza opened her business at 10:36 a.m. and discovered that her watch and some snacks were missing. The police were called, and subsequent examination of closed-circuit security footage showed Morris breaking into several stores at the plaza.

When Morris arrived at work in the evening, he was informed by the investigating officer of the findings. Under caution, Morris reportedly said, "Officer, mi take the items. Even the underpants mi have is the baby shop mi take it from. Mi nuh know why mi do it."
