It has been around since the '80s, undergoing a name change from Munch Wagon to the now-popular Pete's Bakery and Restaurant.

With all its other locations now closed except its oldest on Molynes Road, the food outlet is still well known and supported for its tasty lunches and baked products.

Once known specifically for its fried chicken, the restaurant has expanded its lunch menu, which now sees its famous curried goat taking over in popularity.

"People come from all over for our curried goat. People just love it! Because we also sell large servings in foil containers, people will come by and even order up to 10 servings of curried goat for their Sunday dinner or any other gathering," explains Gary Barrett, marketing and promotions manager.

With fried chicken, curried goat and cow foot as staple dishes on the menu every day, each day also brings new additions.

"Every day, we will have those three dishes, but we also have other items that we have on specific days. For example, people will know that when they come here on a Wednesday, they can get stewed pork."

Barrett notes that while the option is there for persons to dine, they have the option to pick up as well.

"We get a lot of take-out and orders for pick up. So you can call in advance and place your order. We don't deliver anymore, but we do take called-in orders and then our customers can pick up."

With meals freshly prepared, customers are served a decent-sized-portion boxed lunch, which is said to be enough to guarantee a bellyful.

Aside from its local lunch dishes, the restaurant boasts delicious baked products. Ranging from freshly baked breads to a number of sweet treats, customers can pick up from the glass display their product of choice.

To maximise on its own home-made recipes, created by owner Petius Chang, plans are in the works for some of the products to be available in supermarkets and the shelves of convenience stores.

According to Barrett, this should become a reality by this summer.

"We are focusing more now on our baked goods and getting them out there. We are trying to increase our visibility through this. So quite soon, persons don't necessarily have to come here for items such as our rock cake, Danish and toto."

While these items are not uncommon, Barrett said that those made by Pete's give persons value for their money.

"A person can buy one of our Danishes and have it with a box drink for lunch and be full. We give a bellyful in terms of the size of our items, and the cost is quite competitive."
