Just by stepping through the doors of Fromage Gourmet Market you will get a feel, and by extension, literally a taste of France. Located on Hillcrest Avenue, the gourmet market and bistro has been opened since February, and so far has been widely received by taste buds of all kinds .

With the option of buying products, which before, were usually hard to source locally, as well as allowing customers to partake in fine Italian and French food, owner, Lisa Chin said Fromage is taking care of a market that was not entirely catered to.

According to her, the products available on the shelves consist of items that are mainly found abroad but are still loved by Jamaicans.

"Before this, I always brought in food products for retail and a lot of these products, I tell you, are ones that when you travel, you have to stock up on them and carry them home in suitcases."

Stocking only gourmet products, the items include cheeses from around the world and a lot of organic products, which are just ideal for a healthy living.

With a mouth-watering menu, the offerings are the brainchild of Chin. She tells Food that every single dish concept was created by her pulling from various food inspirations and experiences.

With Fromage stemming from the French vocabulary meaning cheese, most of the products and flavours used to make these fantastic dishes, originate out of France. However, the styles and techniques are tweaked according to Chin's creative thoughts.

"Presentation and how I pair things are unique to here. Nobody has soup in a bread bowl! We really do have something different here at Fromage."

As it relates to consistency by maintaining the taste and look of dishes, Chin said that she monitors everything.

"I am around and so I ensure that everything remains the same, so taste and presentation are not compromised. Constant training of my chef also helps," she noted.

With delectable offerings ranging from pastas, paninis, salads, soups, and dips, Fromage has just about everything to please even the most 'hard to impress' palate.

With dining options available, the sounds of French music in the background adds to the overall experience along with the decor. But if dining is not an option, take out is available, and so too is delivery within the Corporate Area.

Fromage Gourmet Market is open every day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Sundays, customers can enjoy Sunday brunch between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The establishment is located at 8 Hillcrest Avenue, Kingston 5. Telephone: 622-9856. It can also be found on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Foursquare.
