WESTERN BUREAU:

The star-studded Jamaica Brazil created history in the 2013 Gas Pro Western Masters Football League last Saturday, when they swamped Queen of Spain 15-0 in their Zone B fixture, the largest margin of victory in the history of a competition spanning three decades.

By virtue of their win, the Jamaica Brazil aggregation now have maximum six points from two games. In their previous outing, they clipped Logwood Stump 1-0.

In the other Zone B game, Logwood Stump notched their first win of the season, clipping Sandy Bay 1-0. The defeat means that Sandy Bay remain winless after two games, having had a 0-0 draw against many-time champions Violet Kickers in their opening game.

In Zone A, newcomers Life TV had their first taste of success, surprising Advent Masters 3-0 at the UDC playing field. In their debut game, Life TV suffered a 2-0 loss to champions First Choice, while in the weekend's other Zone A game, Violet Tourers moved into second place after battling to a 0-0 draw with Challenger.

High-scoring win

In their high-scoring win, several players, including national senior football team head coach, Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore, got on the score sheet twice for Jamaica Brazil as the Queen of Spain goalkeeper spent most of the game picking up balls out of the back of his net.

"This is definitely the new standard in regards to goalscoring in this league," said Bryan Miller, director of the 10-team league. "I am sure that other teams will want to emulate Jamaica Brazil when they encounter Queen of Spain."

The goalscorers for Jamaica Brazil were as follows: George Sylvester scored four times, in the 31st, 33rd, 43rd and 57th minutes; Daniel Rickettes thrice, in the 26th, 54th and 74th minutes; Nicholas Brown, in the 1st, 3rd and 47th minutes; Whitmore, in the 45th and 66th minutes; Nycoma Powell in the seventh and 13th minutes; and Omar Robinson in the 73rd.

After three rounds, the point-standings read as follows: Zone A: First Choice six, Violet Tourers four, Life TV three, Challenger one and Advent Master nought. Zone B: Jamaica Brazil six, Hanover Masters five, Logwood Stump three, Sandy Bay one and Queen of Spain nought.

The competition will continue tomorrow with four games, two in zones A and B. In Zone A, First Choice will entertain Advent Masters at Flankers and Challenger play away to Life TV. In Zone B, Hanover Masters and Jamaica Brazil will square-off at Kenilworth; and Queen of Spain battle Sandy Bay at Friendship.
