Track load a pizza
Garfene Grandison, Assistant Lifestyle Coordinator
Just in time for the summer holiday's, Usain Bolt's Tracks and Records has concocted a few new twists to their menu. Their gourmet flatbread pizza now comes in four different flavours, so persons who love variety can try any of the four scrumptious signature items. Food had a recent taste test with a few friends to get their take on the new pizzas in town.
This limited-time offer was the result of a competition among the kitchen team to select the two best pizzas. They were judged based on visual appeal, combination of ingredients and taste.
The KLE directors were then called in to choose the best two pizzas of the six - with shrimp fredo and the lasagna listed as the favourites. From there, executive chef Vinton Fletcher, sous chef Rochelle Grindley and, junior sous chef Walter Pinnock, took it a step further and created a pizza each and the top two again chosen from that field. The Viva Italy by Vinton Fletcher and South Western by Rochelle Grindley came out on top.
Each individual pizza selected had a fusion of international flavours with a Jamaican flair. The Jamaican twist in the viva Italy is the noticeable flavour of the jerked sausage.
Here is the feedback from Food's 'lunch date'.
Viva Italy
Very rustic and earthy with the different ingredients. Wasn't expecting those amazing flavours from the visual.
The right balance of vegetables, meat and cheese. Very fresh and light.
Has a spicy flavour, but a perfect combination of the different elements/ingredients.
South Western
The flavours were vivid. It's spicy, salty and it has a great aftertaste.
It was very spicy. The scotch bonnet gave it an unexpected edge but overall all the ingredients blended well.
It's the perfect lunch meal because it has this great amount of cheese which pairs well with the bacon flavour.
Lasagna
Really reminiscent of a lasagne - this pizza has that flavour profile. However, it could be just a little more attractive, but the flavours were really nice.
Loved the beef and the cheese combination. It tastes much better than regular lasagna because it doesn't have the heavy pasta. It is really a great way to have pasta without the guilt of all the calories.
The perfect pizza for lasagne lovers, which I am and it's nice and convenient to eat.
Shrimp Fredo
It needed something more. I expected to taste more alfredo sauce. However, I must say that it is a great twist on the shrimp alfredo which I'm already used to.
The combination of the cheeses adds up to a very satisfying taste and I liked the touch of parsley that enhanced the flavour.
