Portmore nightlife gets 'Famous' tonight
Barbara Ellington, Public Affairs Editor
Gary Matalon, Kevin Bourke, and the rest of the Kingston Live Entertainment (KLE) team have much to smile about tonight. That's because Famous will open its doors to Portmore residents and those capital city party lovers who want to try the new experience. This makes four entertainment hotspots under the KLE umbrella: Fiction, Tracks & Records, Odyssey rounding out the list.
Matalon is not daunted by harsh economic times, he thinks it makes good business sense. "We have accomplished much in a short time span; our board of directors provides excellent oversight. We take a professional approach to business and that makes us able to realise what we want," he told Today.
And they are not over by a long shot. There are more projects in the works, including an exciting real-estate venture in St Mary, but all sights are on pulling off a spectacular club opening tonight, across the waters, as they say.
The KLE group did its homework: Portmore is one of the most populated and progressive residential areas for professionals in the island, so it makes sense for them to be entertained there as well. Matalon feels that, if the concept for the club is executed well, it will do well. It's located on the Port Henderson Road in the Naggo Head vicinity.
UPBEAT ABOUT FAMOUS
Kevin Bourke, who handles marketing for the group, is also very upbeat about Famous. And he has good reason to be. It will open Thursday through Saturday nights and can accommodate 1,500 guests.
The target age is 18-35 and theme nights are: ladies/divas night on Thursdays; Famous Fridays, and starlight Saturdays. Admission is easy on the pockets, with $500 on Fridays and $1,000 on Saturdays.
It will be the Mecca for dancehall music and feature a colosseum-inspired décor; plus some heavyweight sponsors such as LIME, Red Bull, Wray & Nephew, Appleton, Pepsi and Carreras are on board, branded areas to boot.
