Alleged meat store robber granted bail
WESTERN BUREAU:A St Mary man who allegedly robbed a meat store in Montego Bay of $215,000 was offered bail in the sum of $250,000 when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Twenty-two-year-old mechanic Marvin Dusard, from Broadgate in St Mary, was charged for shop-breaking and larceny and will return to court on August 21 when the matter is set for mention.
The court was told that Dusard broke into the Pure Meats and More establishment at Fustic Road in Montego Bay and made off with $215,000 from the store, however, the date when the alleged incident took place was not disclosed.
Attorney-at-law Martyn Thomas, who represented Dusard, made a successful bail application for his client before presiding magistrate Carolyn Tie.
"Mr Dusard does not have any previous convictions, and he denies the allegations," said Thomas.
"Where is the nearest police station to where he lives?" asked Tie.
"The Annotto Bay Police Station is the nearest station," Thomas replied.
The prosecution told the court that the case file was not complete as one police statement was still outstanding and the officer who was to submit that statement was on leave.
"I'm offering Mr Dusard bail in the sum of $250,000 with up to three sureties, and he will report to the Annotto Bay Police Station every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. He is to stay away from the civilian witnesses in this case and to stay away from the Pure Meats establishment," said Tie as she set the case for mention on August 21.
