Dancehall Queen competition boasts impressive line-up
A South American country and two new European dancers have given their stamp of approval to Jamaica's International Dancehall Queen 2013.
Chile, Spain and Hungary have been added to the impressive roster of women representing Venezuela, Japan, USA, Switzerland, Canada, Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean.
Now in its 17th year, International Dancehall Queen will be staged at its permanent venue - Pier One on the Waterfront. The event is slated for Saturday, August 4, two days before the country celebrates its 51st Independence.
Already, the Second City is abuzz with talk about the highly anticipated calendar event, which attracts thousands, locally and internationally. The event has become a spectacle as women in costumes display some of the most mesmerising and mind-blowing dance moves.
Over 40 women will grace the stage this year.
BAR RAISED
Organisers of the event, Bighead Promotions, have raised the bar even higher this year with the announcement of a reality television show that will highlight the women as they visit several of the island's attractions and dance their way to glory on August 4.
Martin was speaking at the launch at the new Don Way Complex in Montego Bay Wednesday night.
He and his team attracted the likes of minister of state in the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment, Damion Crawford, whose presentation was bolstered by St James Parish Councillor Suzette Brown.
