V Bar creates a stir in Portmore ... the spot is said to be the first of its kind in the Sunshine City

Making your way up the flight of stairs, you have no idea what's in store for you at the recently opened V Bar and Restaurant. You will immediately be enthralled by the open-air, contemporary and chic layout.
With different areas, housing different styles of seating options, diners can choose whatever area they desire. And if a bar vibe is what you like, the bar section will certainly meet your expectations of a laid-back and casual experience.
Officially opened two months ago by Richard Yang, the spot is said to be the first of its kind in Portmore, St Catherine.
According to Yang, the restaurant and bar, were created to fill a void that had existed in Portmore and surrounding areas for a while, and are an addition they will really appreciate.
"The population in Portmore is huge, and there is really nowhere else for them to sit and dine in a setting like this. I have been living in Portmore and I would have to drive to Kingston to enjoy a place like this. And since the opening, people don't necessarily have to do that," Yang told Food.
Armed with a background in the food industry, Yang knows that a bar and restaurant are only as good as the food that they serve. Meticulous care is now being taken to develop a menu that will adequately satisfy the taste buds of diners. The menu that will offer a fusion of Chinese dishes will officially be launched soon.
Great-tasting food is always complemented by a nicely crafted setting and V Bar and Restaurant is definitely not falling short in either department.
Asked about the inspiration behind the ambience, Yang noted that the design was influenced by his extensive travels.
"I got my ideas from travelling. I wanted something nice and natural looking. This is why I used this type of furniture and colour as well as the green carpet throughout the restaurant."
Since the opening, the feedback from patrons has been very positive. In fact, based on the overwhelming reception, Yang is planning some new additions to enhance the overall dining experience of patrons.
"People love it! They love how comfortable and nice the setting is. We are also thinking of having a buffet and introducing live shows."
With the ability to seat 140 persons at once, leaving diners with the best experience is the modus operandi of the staff. Each table features a light, which has the ability to reflect three separate colours representing the need of diners.
"The standard yellow light means that the table is occupied. There is the red which means you need service and then blue which means you need your cheque. So the light really does the talking, indicating what is needed. And the waitresses act based on that."
With the V representing Victory, VBar and Restaurant is poised to win over the support of persons who can appreciate great food and good company in a cozy and comfortable, yet sophisticated setting.
V Bar is located at 5 Madrid Avenue, Independence City Plaza, Portmore.
It is open every day between the hours of 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.
