WESTERN BUREAU:Although still in its infancy, the 10-month-old home-based Nibella Events and Invitations appears to be set for great things.

The company, which is the brainchild of graphic designer and trained teacher Kerrian Thompson, specialises in event planning and invitation design.

According to Thompson, a Montego Bay home girl, the company, which comprises a team of five, designs to clients' specifications and makes custom-made birthday, wedding, and anniversary invitations.

Initially established as Nibella Designs and Invitations, the company has widened its scope to include the planning and decorating of events, including parties, baby and bridal showers, receptions, and weddings, among others.

A graduate of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, Thompson completed studies in education and visual arts at that institution in 2006 and ventured into the education field.

Thompson, who attended Mount Alvernia High School for Girls, lived in Kingston for several years before returning to St James.

"Originally, I taught at the high-school level for six years and freelanced as a graphic designer at the same time. I always had a love for weddings and for design as I was always doing invitations for friends, one of whom made the suggestion that I could merge the two, so I decided to form Nibella some 10 months ago," Thompson told Western Focus.

CUSTOM-MADE DESIGNS

"All our designs are custom-made. You come with your ideas and your inspiration and we take that and put it together for you. Our clientele, for right now, includes a lot of private customers - mostly persons who know me, or know of work that I have done and are interested in getting their invitations done by Nibella.

Thompson's dream is to see Nibella become one of the leading event consultancies in Montego Bay.

"There are not a lot (of events companies) in Montego Bay. You always have to go to Kingston to get it done, so we want to to be a one-stop shop for all your wedding items, rentals, invitation designs - everything," she said.
