WESTERN BUREAU:

Some 12 chefs representing the hospitality sector will showcase their culinary prowess at the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association's 'A Celebration of Fine Jamaican Cuisine' this Saturday, August 17, at the Rose Hall Great House, Montego Bay.

The annual fundraiser, now in its fifth year, will also feature seasoned performer Gem Myers.

Dubbed an evening of the best in food, wine and entertainment, patrons attending this classy affair will also have access to a full 'Appleton' bar, while being entertained by Myers and DJ Gemini at the controls.

The historic Great House will also be open for tours during the hours of celebration from 8 p.m. to midnight, said a media release from the association.

fully committed

Funds realised from this initiative will assist the Montego Bay chapter of the JHTA in fulfilling its social responsibilities.

"We are fully committed to a number of projects we have been spearheading over time, including the Save the Boys Street Programme, where boys have been removed from the streets, are being schooled, and given a monthly stipend for food," said one of the event's organisers, Delwyn Rochester.

JHTA's Montego Bay chapter will continue maintenance work on house No. 10 at the SOS Children's Village in Barrett Town, St James, which has been adopted by the organisation. Additionally, this tourism grouping will also continue its work at the Tower Hill Basic School in St James, which it reroofed and restored in conjunction with the Kiwanis Club of Providence.

"We are on track to better last year's showing which was well supported," said Omar Robinson, JHTA chapter chair, who noted that the improved level of support expected for event will only allow the organisation to do more for its beneficiaries.

Sponsors for the fundraising event include The Rose Hall Great House, Caribbean Producers Jamaica, J. Wray & Nephew, Round Hill, Sunset Beach Resort, Half Moon Resort, Coyaba Beach Resort, Riu Montego Bay, Grand Palladium, HEART, Wisynco, and Goddard Catering.
