Poetry 2

Tropical summer

Tropical summer brings heat and light

The sun by day and the moon by night

The beautiful sunrise comes with power

To make fade and wilt the morning glory

And capture the attention of the sunflower

And so, the morning begins as the sun shines

Through the clear blue sky.

It is the ideal time to play tennis

To take a walk, or go to the park

To have breakfast, but not in the dark.

Throughout the bright, hot summer day

Everything is full of life

The summer rose strikes a pose

Even the Spanish needle, though rare

Will appear

But not to outdo the exoria and gerbera

So light, in red, yellow, pink and white

That they beckon to the fruits to show, too,

Their best.

The fruits reply to the test

With the colours and shapes of

Bananas, custard apples, soursops

And starapples.

Soon, without warning, the summer day

Becomes summer night.

Tropical summer brings heat and light.

First the sun by day, then the moon at night.

Emancipation Park

It is always summer in Emancipation Park

It soothes the nerves and exercises the curves

Whether early in the morning or late at night

The well-manicured lawn and flowers blooming bright

Seen through the high gates opened wide from five o'clock

Until late at night

In the cool, calm morning atmosphere

We jog or walk

As we sweat and talk

Lovely space with signs of information

About the plants and flowers of beautification

The eye-catching fountain is noisy

And the unforgettable statues

Stand to provoke controversy

A paradise for wedding photos and music to soothe

The soul as the notes fill the air

And dominate the atmosphere

Within the boundaries of the park

Emancipation Park

Park benches to cure weary feet

Refuge from care for you and me

Here, God's love surrounds us

Nature heals our souls

Worries are forgotten as solutions abound

In the park

Emancipation Park.

Poinciana

Under the clear, blue sky

Spreads the poinciana tree up high

With crimson blooms suspended

On the branches so extended

And like a red carpet on the ground

Lying there without a sound

I bend to reach for a rattle

To break the silence a little

The sight excites my appreciation

The sound is like an invitation

To have fun without limitation.

The poinciana tree is gorgeous

And oh so glorious

Nature's gift to mankind

These flowers are one of a kind

Its blooms beautify in splendour

And make us remember

How distinguished is our culture

In this tropical isle

Of pride, joy and independence without guile.

Let us not forget our history

And the poinciana tree

Diego Columbus under Old Spain's banner

Held court under the poinciana

Beauty and strength combined

Honour and power entwined

Such tenderness, such grace

Such daintiness to be embraced

We can stand and stare

At beauty so rare.

I'm not alone

I know You are with me

I know You won't leave me alone

Let Your Spirit fill me

Let me feel You in my bones

For I am now so weary

My heart is on your throne

Heal me, lift me, lead me

I know I'm not alone

Each day as I come nearer

Nearer to Your throne

I feel the weight of heart break

I know I'm not alone

I know that my peace is near

You won't leave I won't fear

Hold me, heal me, lead me

I know I'm not alone

This hurt will heal

I know it will

There is a lesson to be learnt

Don't take the cup

I'm worthy

Help me when it hurts

You are my only constant

I know I'm not alone

Guide me, lead me, heal me

I know I'm not lone

Joy unspeakable and full of your glory is coming I know it

Love beyond compare

Heal me, lead me, hold me

I know I'm not alone.

Gleaner

Gleaner, I'm looking at you,

I know I haven't been writing much,

But here is a little token,

This poem I wrote just for you.

You being number 1 is not a trick

It's not the working witchcraft or magic,

It's being accurate and informative while being slick.

If anyone is being doubtful like Thomas in the bible

Take them for a dip; unto newspaper repentance,

While the competitors you can give a simple tip.

Sports, Business and for Entertainment you give us Art,

That is motivating to the nations - like the poem 'A Fresh Start'.

With Ian Boyne, the controversial one

I'm in focus to read The Gleaner.

A man can write to his woman in the Arts & Education section,

When in a long time he hasn't seen her.

To The Gleaner - don't ever quit,

Keep it continuous, that meticulous writing habit.

Motivated by Glenford Smith in the section for Career,

He educates the people searching for a job or career path never to quit.

Salute to Egerton Chang, Martin Henry, Ruth Howard, Gary Spaulding

And Damion Mitchell, with these names The Gleaner definitely will sell.

Hats off to the number-one newspaper - The Gleaner.
