Though many have tried, nowhere in the world can boast the delectable taste of Jamaican jerk chicken created from succulent pan chicken well-seasoned with unique blends of local flavours, herbs and spices. According to Roy Gayle, a St James contestant at the CB Pan Chicken Championship Western Regional Elimination, you've never tasted pan chicken quite like this!

WESTERN BUREAU:When the curtains came down on the western elimination of the CB Pan Chicken competition in Montego Bay on Saturday, eight of 25 pan chicken vendors, which included two women, were propelled into the finals of the competition which is set for Sunday, November 24.

The finals will follow on the heels of the eastern elimination, which is set for Saturday, September 28.

On Saturday, the dishes prepared by the participants were judged based on taste, which accounted for most of the points, as well as presentation. But everyone was a winner, including patrons of the event who benefited by getting morsels of the spiced goodness way below street value.

Wendel Gayle copped the top prize for the parish of Hanover while his compatriot Donald Smith won the runner-up spot. Annette Holt and Eanon Anderson copped Westmoreland's first and second-place prizes, respectively, while Tyrone Kenton and Lionel Lewis did the same for Trelawny. For the parish of St Ann, Clarence Watson and Damion Bailey came out on top.

The competition's other female, Lisa Louden, walked away with the first-place prize for St James while Patrick Maxwell placed second.
