Vox Pop: What improvements would you like to see effected by the government in 2014?
- Paul Patmore, independent councillor for Lorrimers Division in Trelawny:
We need proper representation for water supply and farming in particular. Right now, the entire South Trelawny does not have a working fire hydrant, and for farmers, the price of yam is constantly going down, and we want to see both issues being addressed speedily.
- James Osbourne, farmer from Litchfield, Trelawny:
Right now, we do not have any political representation in the Wait-A-Bit-Litchfield areas. They need to come now and offer us good representation and not wait until the night before elections to do so. In particular, we are a farming community, and so we need the Ministries of Agriculture and Water to cater to our needs because right now, they do not care for us.
- Sandra Thompson, craft vendor, Falmouth:
I want to see crime go way down to zero. I also want to see them stop locking off parties at 2 a.m. because that is bad for business, and vendors in particular suffer from that practice. I am also calling on the MP, Patrick Anderson, to clean up the entire town of Falmouth because it is in a deplorable condition at the moment.
- Clifton Jarrett, Craft Vendor, Falmouth
The government need to pay more attention to small business development. Right now in Falmouth we don't even have a craft market. I would also like to see better street lighting facilities right here in Falmouth and by enlarge the entire island.
- Stacy-Ann Paisley, accounting clerk, Green Island:
I would like to see better roads in Hanover, especially within the Green Island area as most of the roads are very bad there. Also, more employment opportunities should be provided for young people as there are too many of them leaving college and are unable to obtain jobs.
- Donald Campbell, farmer, Dias:
This year, the Government needs to seek out investment opportunities for Hanover. There is too much unemployment, particularly in Dias, and I am very annoyed when I see so many young unemployed people there, standing by the roadside with absolutely nothing to do.
