WESTERN BUREAU:

Titled the 'Cornwall College Link Up', old boys from the 117-year-old institution linked up at the Jus Jammin Sports Bar in Rose Hall, Montego Bay, on Wednesday night for a fundraiser.

Proceeds from the event will go towards school projects, including the daCosta Cup team, the quiz team and a solar system and security fence.

"This is the first in a series of fundraising activities we will host every month end, culminating in a grand final domino competition at the end of the year," explained Donat Crichton, president of the old boys' association.

Construction plans

According to Crichton, the plan is to upgrade the sporting facilities, install a solar project that will save the school an average of $8 million per year, and construct a security fence.

One of the oldest high schools in western Jamaica, Cornwall has produced the likes of the late Professor Rex Nettleford, film-maker Lennie Little-White, singer A.J. 'Boots' Brown, medical surgeon Dr Cecil Aird, and Professor Horace Fletcher.

The link-up event was strategically held just before the Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival in order to attract Cornwallians visiting from overseas.
