Hanover Pre and Prep stages Boys' Day
The Hanover Pre and Preparatory School staged its Boys and Mothers' Day event on Wednesday under the theme 'Positively Grooming Boys For The Future'.
Boys from grades one to six, as well as kindergarten, turned out dressed in their finest for the function, which was held at the institution, which is located in Lucea.
In her address to the boys during the morning devotional exercise, principal, Madiea Traille-Davidson, told them that being obedient was crucial to their future success.
"Boys, if you want to be different, dare to be different. This society in which we live, nobody wants to be different; everybody wants to be part of the crowd - the negative crowd - but you have to decide in your heart that you are going to be different," the principal said.
"For anything you want in life, you have to listen and learn to obey. You have to listen," she stressed. "You will listen to God, you listen to your parents, to adults, to those who are in authority over you."
Activities for the day included sessions conducted by external presenters on 'Family Structures and Boys', 'Boys in the Home', 'The Impact of Media on the Behaviour of Boys', 'Indiscipline and the Law', 'Role Models and Boys', and 'The Academic Performance of Boys'.
In addition, there were also baking, sewing, and art and craft activities.
A group of upper-school boys also did a rendition of the song You Raise Me Up.
There were also games and activities featuring boys and their mothers. Mothers were also given certificates of participation.
The Hanover Pre and Preparatory School attained the highest average in the national Grade Six Achievement Test in Hanover last year. One hundred and twenty-seven students are enrolled at the institution, which has an academic staff complement of nine teachers and two assistants.
