The Mas Camp Friday fetes climax today when the Queen of Bacchanal, Destra Garcia, takes the stage alongside the Bakanal backing band on the Digicel-sponsored final night.

Leading up to the final-night soca fete, shades of red dominated last Friday night as Bacchanal Jamaica in association with the Island Vibes crew un-leashed Red Conquest on the socaphiles who flooded the Mas Camp Village. By minutes after 10 p.m., Appleton's Forbidden Estate VIP lounge was well patronised as patrons had their fill from the bars that were situated at key areas around the VIP lounge.

A little after 12 p.m., DJ Nuphoric from Trinidad entertained with a solid playlist of 2014 soca music mixed with some oldies but goodies. The Camp once again was filled with excitement as the patrons got into a frenzy.

The red theme was well represented throughout the decor and paraphernalia as Appleton ensured that patrons were well outfitted with red rags and mugs and Digicel, not to be outdone, handed out inflated wave sticks that also glowed red. All in all, there was no doubt that the night was indeed a Red Conquest.

Helium balloons

At 1 a.m., hundreds of red helium balloons were released, signalling the appearance onstage of the headline performer - Skinny Fabulous. As the night sky filled with red, he belted his mega 2014 hit Worst Behaviour to the delight of the audience, but he had a little microphone issue resulting in him being a bit muffled for those at the back of the venue. He followed up his latest hit with 2008's Head Bad, but the energy of some patrons fell as he continued to keep the momentum going.

Destra's rise to the soca monarchy ensued with the release of one of the most popular soca songs to date, It's Carnival. The 2003 mega hit, which featured Machel Montano, was followed over the years with fan favourites, Come Beta, I Dare You and Jumpin.

Now, notorious for her high energy, powerful vocals and commanding onstage presence, Garcia is the perfect performer to help bring the Friday night series to a close and end on a high note.
