Celebrating Easter with St Bess

Published:Thursday | April 17, 2014 | 12:00 AM

The St Elizabeth Homecoming Foundation (SEHF), one of Jamaica's leading not-for-profit community-based NGOs, will stage the annual St Bess Easter Celebrity Brunch on Sunday, April 20.

The brunch, a major fundraising event for the foundation, will be held at the picturesque Boone Hall Oasis in St Andrew starting at 10:30 a.m. The goal for this year's brunch is to raise $500,000 to assist the SEHF with its ongoing projects of improving the quality of life for people of the parish and assisting with scholarships and grants to students. In 2013, the foundation worked with a number of major sponsors to host the event. Part proceeds went towards assisting a needy St Elizabethan by establishing a broiler project (a small chicken coop), 50 baby chicks and feed for a duration of six weeks. The foundation also assisted in the sale and marketing of the birds. A second batch of 70 chickens was later given, putting her on the path to economic independence.

The brunch will feature a range of St Elizabeth foods cooked in the 'Best of St Bess' style and served by outstanding St Elizabethans and Jamaican celebrities. Other activities will include a fashion show, Easter hat parade and competition, art exhibition and sale, and a St Bess farmers' market, offering fresh produce available for purchase.
