Agents of change

Administrative Professionals Week (APW) was established in 1952 and, today, it has become one of the largest workplace observances celebrated worldwide. This is indeed an annual opportunity to recognise the valuable workplace contributions of administrative professionals in the public and private sectors. This year, the week will be observed during the period April 20-26.

Jamaica and its Caribbean counterparts will be observing the special week under the theme, 'Administrative Professionals Igniting Change'. In looking at the theme, we must pause to acknowledge that we have to be change agents for the companies, institutions, and communities in which we serve.

The fear of change is most definitely the greatest barrier to progress. Whenever we are in a crisis, the world seems dark. One spark of hope can make all the difference.

Administrative professionals, celebrate who you are and what you have achieved. Never be complacent. Always seek to make changes where necessary. Take a candle and go light the world. Be the change and make it work.

Acknowledgement

As we celebrate the 62nd observance of APW, it is with great pleasure that I salute all the members of the association and members of the profession during this week. I also acknowledge the bosses and employers for their continued support of this important workplace observance.

To celebrate this important event and acknowledge the valuable contributions made by administrative professionals, the members of the association have organised a number of activities, including church services, courtesy calls, seminars, and treats for the wards of children's homes, luncheons and socials.

On behalf of the members of the national executive, let me extend congratulations to the chapter presidents and their members for coordinating these activities. We commend you for your continued support and dedication to professionalism.

Fellow administrative professionals, do have a productive and fulfilling Administrative Professionals Week 2014.
