In an otherwise healthy diet, treating yourself to a serving of your favourite ice cream, a milkshake, a few French fries or a piece of chocolate cake isn't going to ruin your weight-loss goals. A study found that it isn't necessary to up workout intensity the day after a special treat and that a daily variance of as much as 600 calories won't reflect on your waistline, as long as you maintain a healthy diet in the long run. Besides, completely denying yourself the occasional treat will only intensify your craving and may lead to a binge. So go ahead, have the occasional treat. The trick is making it a rare occasion and making it part of your daily calorie intake as opposed to adding it. In other words, substitute the treat for something you would normal have that day so that you don't increase your calories.
