A Jamaican teacher who became sick with a mould allergy and had her pay stopped after she refused to return to school, has won her legal battle against Bermuda’s Education Ministry.

55 year old Ulama Finn Hendrickson went to court, after the government stopped her salary without warning in January 2007 after she took ill.

Mrs. Finn Hendrickson, who was employed as a reading instructor at one of the island\'s largest public schools reportedly, suffered headaches, sinus problems and fainting fits.

She said she was hoping the ministry would have placed her in a different school.

Puisne Judge, Ian Kawaley ruled that she should have been told disciplinary action would be taken against her, for not going to work once the mould-infested school was cleaned up at the end of 2006.

The judge ruled that Mrs. Finn-Hendrickson should remain her job as a teacher and is owed 13 months of back pay and expenses from the ministry, totalling at least US$90,000.

The government must also fund her legal costs of more than US$70,000.
