Jamaican faces murder charge

A Jamaican man who escaped a double murder conviction in the United States 10 years ago is now facing a new murder charge.
Carib World News (CWN) reports that Winston Grant, 44, who was deported from the USA re-entered the country illegally.
He is charged with conspiracy to commit murder, following the January 31 shooting of Maurice Johnson of Texas Avenue in Connecticut.
Mr. Johnson was a Jamaican, who was living in the US without permanent residency. He was found with several gunshot wounds to the head in the parking lot, of the Old Mill Green Library on East Main Street.
The police said witnesses reported that they saw Mr. Grant get into Mr. Johnson’s car before he was killed. He was arrested in the Bronx last week.
Grant was convicted in 1990, of two counts of murder for fatally shooting a Newfield Avenue storeowner and his girlfriend. The state was forced to drop the murder charges against him, when the key witness to the murders disappeared.
