UWAU to meet JUTC

The University and Allied Workers Union (UAWU) said it is seeking an urgent meeting with the management of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC), over the suspension of several workers.



It is reported that about 10 employees who were on duty, or who were scheduled to be at work during a fire at the company have been suspended without pay.



The fire reportedly destroyed four buses at the depot in Portmore on February 23.



First vice-president at UAWU, Clifton Grant said the union has written to the management of JUTC seeking a meeting within the next 24 hours, to discuss the position of the workers.



He said the union would also be seeking to have the JUTC explain the basis on which the employees were sent home without notification to the union.
