Unions representing the island’s sugar workers and the Sugar Producers Federation were last night able to reach a wage agreement during a meeting that lasted more than 12 hours at the ministry of Labour’s offices.

The union had rejected the federation’s offer of a 10 percent increase in the year one and five percent in year two.

President of the National Workers’ Union (NWU), Vincent Morrison said the federation has agreed on a 13 percent increase in year one and a 10 percent increase in year two.

He said the federation has also agreed to a two percent crop bonus among other benefits.

More than 800 field and factory workers are represented by the NWU, Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU) and the University and Allied Workers Union (UAWU).
