Titchfield High unrest

There is reported unrest among staff and students at the Titchfield High School in Portland following two incidents yesterday at the institution.



In one of the incidents, a male student reportedly hit a male teacher on the arm with a chair.



The teacher had to seek medical attention at the Port Antonio Hospital.



The second incident involved the beating of a grade 11 male student by a group of students.



An emergency meeting involving the principal, teachers, regional educational officers and members of the school board was held this morning to address the concerns of teachers.



The teachers are reportedly upset over what they say is a series of incidents in which members of staff have been faced with unruly behaviour by students.



Following this morning’s meeting, a decision was made to suspend the student who attacked the teacher, for 10 days.



The police were also called in to the school this morning, and four male students who were implicated in the beating of another male student were held for questioning.
