OLINT pleas for accounts

Lawyers for the investment club OLINT are now trying to convince the Court of Appeal to extend the injunction, which bars the National Commercial Bank (NCB) from closing its accounts.



On Friday, Supreme Court Judge, Justice Roy Jones ruled that NCB could go ahead and close OLINT’s three accounts.



OLINT’S lawyers, Georgia Gibson-Henlin and Maurice Manning went to the Court of Appeal and got an injunction staying the judge’s order.



OLINT argued that by threatening to close the accounts, NCB breached the Banking Act.



The investment club is insisting that the accounts are operated on behalf of Jamaicans, who are entitled to the protection of the laws, governing the banking sector.



OLINT has also accused commercial banks of collusion, citing the closure of its accounts at several other institutions.
