St. Ann Bauxite strike

The union representing workers at the St. Ann Bauxite Limited has carried out its threat to disrupt the company’s operation.

The University and Allied Workers’ Union (UAWU) said more than 400 workers at the company are now on strike.

President of the UAWU, Lambert Brown said the decision to take industrial action follows failure by the company to offer a satisfactory wage package during yesterday’s meeting.

Two weeks ago, the union extended an ultimatum until today to allow the company time to conclude the wage negotiations.
