Leader of the Opposition and President of the People’s National Party (PNP), Portia Simpson Miller said the party has still not decided on its response to the announced increase in mortgage rates at the National Housing Trust (NHT).

Mrs. Simpson Miller said the PNP is very upset about the announced increase, which she said would negatively impact many persons.

She has again claimed that the NHT is not insolvent.

Mrs. Simpson Miller also rejected claims by the Prime Minister, that the increase mortgage fees is necessary to prevent the NHT from becoming bankrupt in a few years.

She said the increase in mortgage rates could lead to an increase in other rates provided by mortgage lenders like building societies.
