Tax amnesty in effect
The Tax Administration Department said the six-month Tax Amnesty is now in effect for taxpayers with arrears due on or before April 11.
The Finance Minister, Audley Shaw made the announcement during his budget presentation on April 10, as part of the government’s strategy to reduce tax arrears and improve revenue collections.
Public Relations Director at the department, Meris Haughton said a waiver will be granted on penalties, surcharges and interest on all tax types, once the principal sum owed is paid in full.
She said taxpayers will not be required to make a formal application in order to benefit from the Tax Amnesty.
Ms. Haughton is urging persons who owe Property Tax, General Consumption Tax, Special Consumption Tax , Contractors Levy and PAYE to take advantage of the tax anmensty.
She said this also applies to those owing Education, Transfer, Stamp Duty, and Asset Taxes.
Ms. Haughton said the amnesty will expire on a phased basis on October 31.
