Parish Council issues stop order
Work at the RIU Mahoe in Montego Bay was halted yesterday when the St. James Parish Council issued a stop order on the hotel’s management.t.
The decision followed another tour of the facility yesterday, by representatives of the council and a team from the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA).
The action by the council follows a decision by the hotel’s operators to construct four storey buildings instead of the three stories approved by the Parish Council.
Montego Bay Mayor, Charles Sinclair said breaches, which were detected on previous visits by representatives of the parish council, were confirmed by NEPA during yesterday’s tour.
He said the parish council expects the management of the hotel to correct the breaches.
Mr. Sinclair said a report has also been prepared for the Prime Minister on the matter.
