ECJ to meet for Director’s replacement

The Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) will be considering possible replacements for Director of Elections, Danville Walker when it meets tomorrow.
Mr. Walker yesterday resigned from the position with immediate effect.
Chairman of the Commission, Professor Errol Miller said Mr. walker indicated that his resignation related to issues surrounding his dual citizenship.
During the dual citizenship case involving, Daryl Vaz and Abe Dabdoub, it emerged that Mr. Walker was an American citizen.
Local laws disqualify individuals with dual citizenship from holding the position of Director of Elections.
Mr. Walker’s resignation is seen by some as a huge blow to the EOJ especially with the threat of an early general election or a by-election taking place.
Professor Miller said Mr. Walker’s contribution to the Electoral office of Jamaica (EOJ) has been invaluable.
He also said the ECJ’s first order of business will be to identify someone to Act in the position, and then move on to find a replacement.
Danville Walker has led the staff at the EOJ in three general elections and three local government elections.
His tenure in the position would have ended in 2013.
