Automobile dealers pleased

The automobile dealers association said it is pleased with an agreement, which has been reached between its members and the finance ministry.



The association had raised concerns over proposed changes to the import duty on motor vehicles.



Finance Minister Audley Shaw announced in his budget presentation in March that the government would be restructuring the import duty system.



Following the announcement, President of the association, Kent Lacroix, raised several concerns and said the proposed changes would have a negative impact on the importation of new vehicles.



On Wednesday, members of the association met with minister without portfolio in the finance ministry, Don Wehby where an agreement was reached between the parties.



Mr. Lacroix said the government has now made some amendment to the rates, which were earlier announced.



He said there is also a rate reduction on all diesel vehicles.



The changes to the import duty system are to come into effect on Monday.
