Motorists to pay more at the tolls

Motorists using the Portmore leg of Highway 2000 should know today how much more they are to pay at the toll.



The drivers of motorcars could be paying as much as $30 more on the $60 currently being charged.



A similar increase is to be passed on to drivers of class two and three vehicles. They now pay between $100 and $200 for the four-kilometer stretch of roadway.



In February, Prime Minister Golding, who was speaking on the Jamaica House Live programme said the government was no longer able to bear the full cost of the increases by the toll operators.



The toll operators recently agreed to recommendations by the Transport Ministry to have the application period for as rate increase reduced to once per year instead of bi-annually.



The last toll increase was granted more than 2 years ago.
