Bus operators protest

Bus operators who ply the Mandeville to Christiana and the Mandeville to Spalding routes have stopped working.
They are demonstrating against what they call the inadequate fare increase that was granted for route-taxis by the Transport Ministry more than a week ago.
The 25 percent fare increase for route-taxis took effect on Saturday, but several bus operators have also raised their fares.
In announcing the route-taxi fare increase just over a week ago, Transport Minister Mike Henry said he would disclose a new fare structure for chartered taxis and buses in coming weeks.
However, there is still no word on that new rate structure.
