The Transport Ministry is expressing concern about the operations of the Montego Bay Transport Centre in St. James.

Communications Director at the Transport Ministry, Reginald Allen, said taxi and bus operators are not properly utililising the centre as intended.

According to Mr. Allen this is among several factors leading to significant traffic buildup in the city.

Mr. Allen said the Transport Authority has not been effectively enforcing the regulations of the centre.

He said the Transport Ministry would be continuing talks with the Transport Authority and the centre’s management about upgrading the facility, which would include the repair of several potholes and road surfaces.

Mr. Allen said steps would also be taken to address the issue of squatting at the old railway station in Montego Bay.

He said several illegal businesses have been operating from the station.
