Police investigators have still not determined the circumstances that led to the death of an inmate at the St. Catherine Adult Correctional Centre last night.

The inmate, who was reportedly just 4 years into a 10-year sentence is said to have fainted while in a cell shared with two other prisoners.

Commissioner of Corrections, Major Richard Reese, said the man, whose name has not been released was found lying in his cell unconscious around 8.40 p.m.

He said the inmate was later transferred to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The dead man was reportedly convicted in St. James in 2004 for wounding with intent.
