Agencies ready for Hurricane season

With less than one week before the start of the 2008 Hurricane Season, several agencies are reporting a state of readiness.
Acting Co-ordinator at the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, (ODPEM) Patricia Paul, said a list of priority shelters is to be submitted to Prime Minister Bruce Golding at a meeting today.
Portmore Mayor Keith Hinds said despite the small allocation available to clean drains, preparations are on target.
Mayor Hinds said communication with residents concerning possible evacuation routes would begin in another two weeks.
Minister with responsibility for Local Government, Robert Montague is also confident that the government is prepared for the hurricane season.
Weather analysts have predicted an above average 2008 Hurricane season.
