Security ministry gets $24 million loan

The ministry of national security has received a loan of $24 million to assist in its violence prevention, peace and sustainable development programmes.
The money is being made available through the Jamaican government and the United Nations Development programme (UNDP).
The loan, which was signed off on yesterday between the National Security Minister Colonel Trevor Macmillan and a representative of the UNDP, will be used to assist in setting up a crime prevention and community safety unit.
It will also be used to support the finalisation of a community policy and crime prevention strategy.
The loan will also be used to strengthen the safe schools project.
The national security minister said the programmes would enable greater collaboration among critical government and non-government groups, in order to foster sustained peace and development.
