Unions meet JUTC
The unions representing workers at the Jamaica Urban Transit Company, JUTC will be meeting with the management of the bus company to continue discussions on a proposed redundancy exercise.
Last week a back to work formula was agreed on between the workers and the bus company following almost two days of strike.
The agreement was reached after the intervention of minister without portfolio in the finance ministry, Senator Dwight Nelson.
The workers are upset over a decision by the bus company to make at least 500 positions at the bus company redundant.
Vice president at the University and Allied Workers Union (UAWU), Clifton Grant, said the unions are hoping to reach an amicable solution with the bus company today.
Mr. Grant said the union is also concerned about the company’s decision to advertise job vacancies for drivers while some are being laid off.
According to Mr. Grant, if the workers will not be reinstated arrangements must be made for them to receive whatever money is outstanding to them.
