St. Ann Parish Council awaits repair funds
The St. Ann Parish Council said it is still awaiting a response from the Office of the Prime Minister to its request for $130 million in grant funds to repair roads and drains damaged during the April 17 flood rain.
The request for the funds was submitted to the Department of Local Government on April 22, following the two days of heavy rainfall, which caused extensive damage to roads and other infrastructure in sections of the Ocho Rios and Beecher Town divisions.
Chairman of the Council, Mayor Ivan Anderson said while some money has been made available for the clean up of down town Ocho Rios, serious attention needs to be given to the communities lying above the town in order to prevent further flooding.
Mayor Anderson said there are also a number of roads and drains in other sections of the parish, which need to be rehabilitated in preparation for the hurricane season.
