Clarendon Hurricane Preparedness

The Mayor of Clarendon Milton Brown is expressing concern about several roadways and bridges in the parish which were severely damaged by Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
Mr. Brown claims the roadways, which are mainly in the hilly areas provide limited access to several communities.
He is calling on the government to provide additional emergency funds to repair the roads and bridges in case of a hurricane or any other natural disasters.
The affected areas include Simon, Cotton Ground, Shake Hand Corner and Mound Hindmost.
The affected bridges are the Rosa, Rio, Cox Wain and Oaksriver.
According to Mr. Brown the parish is about 80 percent prepared for a hurricane.
He says several drain cleaning programmes are now underway throughout the parish.
According to him, $1.4 million has also been allocated for the installation of a generator at the Emergency Operation Centre, located at the parish council office.
Councillor for the Rocky Point Division, Winston Maragh is also requesting funds for the continuation of works to relocate several residents in his division.
He says about 50 more families are to be relocated from Portland Cottage and Rocky Point.
However he claims the houses to which the residents are to be relocated are not yet ready due to limited funding.
